What is a “Heartfelt” Driven Mystery Thriller?

A “Heartfelt” Mystery Thriller is my way of describing what happens when a mystery-suspense thriller is written by a family counselor, not a cop, journalist, lawyer, politician, medical doctor, or retired spy. Nor is it simply a “psychological thriller” with a new plot twist to keep you turning the pages. The closest I can come to that idea (for those who read it) is Ordinary Grace, by William Kent Krueger) although the author was not a family counselor. But the book draws you into the sensitively drawn characters, whether protagonists or antagonists. You feel for them.

Which is why you might be interested in the author of Dark Rivers to Cross, by Lynne Reeves. Because this is a unique angle from which to write a thriller mystery, you may be interested in a Zoom Event hosted by our MBTS Library in conjunction with the Tewksbury Public Library:

On WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2022 from 7:00—8:00 PM. CLICK: LEARN MORE & THEN SIGN UP TO GET THE ZOOM LINK

This interests me because….
  • Is there really any family with no secrets, no generational communication issues, no mental health issues?
  • Can an author actually write about a neurotic bad guy so that we feel both suspense AND compassion?
  • Yes there is a difference between a “cozy” and a “heartfelt mystery thriller.” In theory. I wonder how well Lynne Reeves can pull it off.

I encourage your participation. Mark your calendar, and use the link in the above green-ish box above to “register” (sign up).
